PILOT NAME: Tony Sandlin
HOMETOWN: Fishers, IN
BALLOON NAME: Glory Be
Tony operates the only full time ride operation in the state of Indiana and has currently logged a total of over 1600 PIC hours since 2002. He was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN and now lives in Fishers, IN with his wife, Gail and their youngest of 3 sons.
Tony became involved in ballooning in 1989 after answering an ad in the Thrifty Nickel Newspaper looking for a person to join a hot air balloon crew team. In 2002 he started the process of becoming a private pilot and then became a commercial hot air balloon pilot in 2005. Tony has 4 hot air balloons (with a new one on the way) and regularly contracts other pilots to give several passengers at one time a unique ride in the sky. Two of the balloons are handicap accessible, which are very people popular for events requesting tethered rides. Our United States VP Mike Pence and family are among many people that have enjoyed a balloon flight with Tony.
Tony has flown extensively throughout the United States as well as Canada, Mexico and the Middle East. From 2011 through 2016 Tony was included as one of only a few balloons permitted to give passenger rides at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, an annual gathering of over 500 hot air balloons.
During the midwest winter Tony runs a small tax office in Speedway, Indiana preparing approximately 600 tax returns. Currently Tony is the President and Great Lake Regions Board member for The Professional Ride Operators Division of the Balloon Federation of America.
